CD Productions

In my 30+ years of working on “catalog” projects for record companies (“catalog” referring to fresh spins on music – previously released and/or unreleased – in an asset holder’s proverbial “vault”), I have thus far only worn the hat of producer about a dozen times. That means I selected all the music to be included in the anthology, decided what the optimal sequencing of the songs should be, composed the liner note essay plus the publicity materials to promote them to consumers and the media. Because I have never worked directly for a record company – I’ve always been an independent contractor – I have never handled the financial business, mechanical licensing and third-party contracts for a project. Therefore, of the projects I have had the “title” producer, I have yet to have a project turn out 100% the way I envisioned it from the start. However, I’m always mighty close and take great pride in the projects that bear my name.
